Sue Lamoureux<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Former Town & Gown President Sue Lamoureux ’71<\/strong> came to Chapman College in the Fall of 1967 (the school year that T&G was established!) from Pomona and joined Theta Service Club as a freshman. She chose Chapman for its World Campus Afloat, which she experienced in Spring \u201970 and Fall \u201972 and still has her acceptance letter dated March 3, 1967, signed by Merton Brown, Director of Admissions; her Freshman Beanie; Panther Tag; and Handbook\u2026AND can still sing the original Chapman College Hymn! Her admission package to Chapman, with an enrollment of about 600 students for the 1967-68 academic year, shows Tuition, $600;\u00a0 Board, $250;\u00a0 Room (double occupancy), $150;\u00a0 Registration Fee, $12; Student Body Fee, $16;\u00a0 Insurance and Health Fee, $13; for a grand total of $1,041 per semester. Books were estimated at $150-$200 per semester. John L. Davis, Ph.D. was President of the College that year. Sue found it easy to get to know other students and was one of few freshmen with a car – a 1929 Model A Ford Sedan. Living in East dorm, she didn\u2019t need her car on campus but often took friends to the Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Store! She owned the car for 52 years and only recently sold it.<\/p>\n

Sue met her husband Ray in her junior year, and they married following graduation in 1971, remaining active in alumni events with Ray serving as Alumni Board President. Sue majored in History and Political Science and later obtained a Master\u2019s degree in Social Ecology\/Planning and Public Policy from UCI. These degrees led to her Planning and Environmental Consulting career, and together she and Ray maintain a real estate brokerage in Irvine. She joined T&G about 1980 and the T&G Board under Libby Pankey (1982-1983), serving as Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, Membership and Program Chairs before becoming the 12th<\/sup> President in 1988-1989 and is grateful to have had the privilege of knowing all<\/strong> 30 T&G Presidents.<\/p>\n

Sue claims: \u201cOne of the best things about serving as T&G President is the opportunity to serve two years on the Board of Trustees. During my term, Chapman College became Chapman University. \u00a0Another highlight was the celebration of the 25th <\/sup>Anniversary of T&G at the Fullerton Home of Charles C. Chapman.\u201d Sue is forever grateful to Chapman for providing lifelong friends, many of whom are Town & Gown members. Two of Sue\u2019s and Ray\u2019s three sons and a daughter-in-law have attended Chapman. They now have four wonderful grandchildren, 2 boys (ages 11 and 8) and 2 girls (ages 6 and 5), and are hoping all will go to Chapman!<\/p>\n

Sue\u2019s comment: \u201cT&G has certainly evolved over the years by adapting to the growth of Chapman and Orange County. What hasn\u2019t changed is the dedication of the T&G officers and membership to the values of Chapman University and the new student communities.\u201d Sue and Ray remain involved with their many Chapman friends traveling, golfing, and dining together frequently. They continue to travel the world and became members of Chapman\u2019s 50-Year Club in 2021. They collect vintage cars and own Ray\u2019s mother\u2019s 1957 Bentley and Sue\u2019s parents\u2019 1968 Cadillac DeVille convertible that they bought when she was a freshman at Chapman.<\/p>\n
