She found a solution in one of her former student\u2019s projects and now, she is using an Instagram challenge to educate her class virtually.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sarah Waldorf (\u201812, Art), a Wilkinson alum who now leads social media for The Getty Center, which wanted to keep the public engaged even after the museum was forced to temporarily close its doors. Waldorf conceived <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">#BetweenArtandQuarantine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, an online <a href=\"https:\/\/news.chapman.edu\/2020\/04\/08\/with-heart-and-soul-chapman-alumna-helps-the-world-connect-with-art\/\">project<\/a> encouraging people to recreate famous artwork using themselves and items available to them at home.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12239\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12239\" style=\"width: 504px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12239\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/04\/Screen-Shot-2020-04-22-at-7.24.43-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"504\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/04\/Screen-Shot-2020-04-22-at-7.24.43-PM.png 1000w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/04\/Screen-Shot-2020-04-22-at-7.24.43-PM-300x112.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/04\/Screen-Shot-2020-04-22-at-7.24.43-PM-768x286.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12239\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Left) Danae and the Shower of Gold (retitled to &#8220;Danae and the Shower of Gold[fish]&#8221;); (Right)Leah Sherman-Weiner, Senior Film Production Major and Art Minor; and Stephanie McAdams, Senior Screenwriting Major and English Minor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI thought of [the class project] as a nice way to pay homage to Sarah \u2013 a studio art alumna \u2013 and to build a connection between past and present art students at Chapman,\u201d said Hebron. \u201cIt&#8217;s great when we can show students examples of viable, enriching careers in the arts, such as the one Sarah has built.\u201d<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hebron saw the Getty challenge as the perfect creative outlet to demonstrate an important component of the Contemporary Gallery Practice class: what it means to be learning and making art from home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Her students were tasked with recreating pieces from the Getty collection using only three objects or individuals. Every Friday, they are featuring posts on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/escalettecollection\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Instagram<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with re-creations of pieces from the Escalette\u2019s collection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Especially during this time in quarantine, people are relying on the arts \u2013 music, literature, graphic design, game design, digital imagery \u2013 to get them through the everyday. Projects like Waldorf\u2019s exemplify how influential and powerful the creativity of the Chapman community can be during uncertain times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cArt, in all of its forms, allows us to express and share our truths and experiences with each other, which in turn, cultivates empathy, and empathy is the quintessence of connection,\u201d added Hebron. \u201cCan you possibly imagine working, learning, and living during quarantine without art?
