In addition, the gallery will publish a series of videos with interviews and walkthroughs for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">this <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fall<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019s<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> shows on its YouTube channel (coming soon!).<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12710\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12710\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/09\/ARTACROSSTHEBORDERMD-1200.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12710\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12710 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/09\/ARTACROSSTHEBORDERMD-1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"278\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12710\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gallery Catalog: La Frontera: Art Across The Border + Border Clicks + Selections from the Escalette Permanent Collection of Art, Aug. 26 &#8211; Nov. 17, 2019.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;As the pandemic changed all our routines, I was wondering how to continue the gallery programming while under COVID restrictions,\u2019 said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/marcus-herse\">Guggenheim Gallery Coordinator Marcus Herse<\/a>. &#8220;To publish our catalogs digitally, seemed like one of the things we could do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Herse has been feverishly working, submerging himself through several years of hard drives to locate files associated with the publications to prepare them for digital release. Essentially this means changing the InDesign files created for the print versions of the catalogs to PDF flipbooks, so it <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/09\/LOSANTHROPOLOCOSSPRMD-1200.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12711\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-12711\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/09\/LOSANTHROPOLOCOSSPRMD-1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"253\" \/><\/a>appears as if you&#8217;re opening up a book and not just a single page scroll.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;Once the catalogs are designed it is easy to create a PDF for virtual distribution, but we will definitely continue the series both in print and digitally&#8221; once students are allowed back on campus, he said. After looking at different possibilities, the group decided on <a href=\"https:\/\/scalar.me\/anvc\/scalar\/\">Scalar<\/a>, a publishing platform for creative design<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scalar<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is an open source, web-based publishing software from the University of Southern <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">California&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fscalar.usc.edu%2Fabout%2F&amp;data=02%7C01%7Clsilva%40chapman.edu%7C6917af6db139459ecc5208d84f664870%7C809929af2d2545bf9837089eb9cfbd01%7C1%7C0%7C637346648005154575&amp;sdata=B%2Fylh4ejL5hewRb%2BtRvUwOmu0x2YTl1Wq1WNkjkhg6A%3D&amp;reserved=0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alliance for Networking Visual Culture<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that allows users to create networked, multi-media online publications.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/arts\/escalette-collection.aspx\"> The Escalette Collection<\/a> is also using <a href=\"https:\/\/scalar.chapman.edu\/scalar\/beginagain\/index\">Scalar for its <\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scalar.chapman.edu\/scalar\/beginagain\/index\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Begin\/Again: Marking Black Memories<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Virtual <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scalar.chapman.edu\/scalar\/beginagain\/index\">Art Exhibit<\/a>, part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/about\/events\/engaging-world.aspx\">Wilkinson College\u2019s Engaging the World: Lead<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/about\/events\/engaging-world.aspx\">ing the Conversation on the Significance of Race<\/a>, which runs from August 31, 2020 \u2013 May 31, 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12729\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12729\" style=\"width: 580px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/09\/The-Show-Must-Go-Home-home.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12729\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12729 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/09\/The-Show-Must-Go-Home-home.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/09\/The-Show-Must-Go-Home-home.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/09\/The-Show-Must-Go-Home-home-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/09\/The-Show-Must-Go-Home-home-1024x614.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/09\/The-Show-Must-Go-Home-home-768x461.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12729\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Show Must Go Home: Senior Thesis Exhibition Spring 2020.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;It is an amazing tool for us to easily create digital versions of exhibitions instead of buying and designing websites for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">each student show. The great thing about it, aside from the fairly easy navigation, is that the exhibitions have a Chapman URL and will remain on the Chapman server indefinitely, providing our department and future students with a ready-at-hand archive of our student\u2019s accomplishments.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Take\u00a0 a look at &#8220;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scalar.chapman.edu\/scalar\/the-show-must-go-home\/the-show-must-go-home?path=index\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Show Must Go Home: Senior Thesis Exhibition 2020<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8221; now on Scalar.
