At Chapman University, students from every major can explore the path to law. I\u2019m here to help break down what actually matters and what doesn\u2019t, so you can prepare with confidence and intention. Hearing directly from the alumni at our recent Pre-Law Mixer only reinforced this. Listening to their journeys, challenges, and advice revealed just how many different paths can lead to law school and how valuable real-world insight is when deciding on your next steps.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Myth #1: You Need to Be a Pre-Law Major to Go to Law School<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Reality:<\/b> Law schools don\u2019t require or prefer a specific major.<br \/>\nAt Chapman University, successful law applicants come from a variety of backgrounds, including Political Science, English, Psychology, Business, Philosophy, STEM fields, and even Creative Writing. What matters is building strong reading, writing, research, and analytical skills\u2014tools you can develop in Wilkinson College classes.<\/p>\n<p><b>What to do:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enroll in classes that challenge your writing and critical thinking skills.<\/li>\n<li>Choose a major you enjoy because you\u2019ll naturally perform better.<\/li>\n<li>Add a minor that will help you, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/interdisciplinary-minors\/law-liberal-arts-minor.aspx\">law and liberal arts<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Myth #2: You Need a Perfect GPA to Get In<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Reality:<\/b> A high GPA is helpful, but it\u2019s not the whole story. You will learn a lot!<\/li>\n<li>Network through LinkedIn and conduct informational interviews.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer or intern in areas that spark curiosity, not commitment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Myth #4: You Have to Take the LSAT ASAP<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Reality:<\/b> The best time to take the LSAT is when you\u2019re fully prepared.<br \/>\nYour score lasts for years, and a rushed score hurts more than waiting.<\/p>\n<p><b>What to do:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Explore various prep tools (free and paid) early, and ask around for the best ones.<\/li>\n<li>Take a diagnostic to understand your baseline.<\/li>\n<li>Build a 3\u20136 month study plan\u2014balanced with your semester load.<\/li>\n<li>Talk with Chapman\u2019s Pre-Law advisor for timeline recommendations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>So\u2026 What Actually Helps You Prepare for Law School?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>1.
