\nWhite (Weiße) Rose Exhibit Chapman University’s
\nDepartment of World Languages and Cultures<\/a>
\n is proud to present the White Rose Exhibit, a chronicle of a non-violent student resistance movement against the Nazi regime, October 1 – October 30, 2013 on the first floor of Argyros Forum.
\n
\nIn June of 1942 a group of German university students, with the support of their philosophy professor, created and distributed leaflets calling for fellow students and citizens to rise up against Hitler’s tyranny. They denounced the crimes against humanity committed by his dictatorship putting their lives on the line. On February 22, 1943, six leaders of the movement were executed. “Let freedom live” were the final words of student leader Hans Scholl. Their heroic acts to stand up for what they believed in, even knowing the consequences if caught, define true courage. Their sixth leaflet, known as the “Manifesto of the Students of Munich,” was airdropped over Germany in June 1943 by Allied planes. The display consists of large photos of the students with descriptive narratives of the group’s extraordinary efforts.
