On Monday, November 3, 2014 you&#8217;re invited to the first<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/crassh-burn\/burn.aspx\">BURN workshop<\/a><br \/>\n of the fall, Making a Change, Being Involved: Life beyond the Campus, at 12-1 p.m. in the Laura Scudder Conference Room, Roosevelt Hal 127 with Professors Jan Osborn and Morgan Read-Davidson.&#xD;<br \/>\n&#xD;<br \/>\nOne of the life skills we gain at a university is how to instigate change in the world. From local issues to global concerns, community engagement is about using your ideas to make a real difference in the world. This session will look at how to get involved, how to approach faculty with an idea or project and how to become involved in existing projects.&#xD;<br \/>\n&#xD;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/jan-osborn\">Jan Osborn<\/a><br \/>\n, Ph.D., is&#xA0;an alumna of The University of Michigan and the University of California,<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2014\/10\/Jan_Osborne.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5515\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-5515\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2014\/10\/Jan_Osborne.jpg\" alt=\"Woman smiling.\" width=\"115\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nRiverside. She is an assistant professor in the&#xA0;Rhetoric and Writing Studies Program in the English Department and co-teaches Humanomics with Professor Wilson in the Economic Science Institute. &#xA0;Prior to coming to Chapman, Jan taught English in secondary public schools in Los Angeles and Orange counties, community colleges in Michigan and California, and at State Prison Southern Michigan. She is the director of the Chapman University\/Orange High School Literacies Partnership&#xA0;and the Orange County Literary Society Collaborative. Her current research is focused on discourse analysis and multicultural literacies.&#xD;<br \/>\n&#xD;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2014\/10\/Read-Davidson_M.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5516\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5516 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/wilkinson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2014\/10\/Read-Davidson_M.jpg\" alt=\"Man smiling.\" width=\"110\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/morgan-read-davidson\">Morgan Read-Davidson<\/a><br \/>\n, MFA, is an alumni of Chapman University and a 2005 Nicholl Fellow in Screenwriting. Morgan directs the Rhetoric and Writing Studies program in the English Department and teaches new media, rhetoric, composition pedagogy, and screenwriting. He is the director of the Iluminacion Writing Program, a community outreach effort that connects Chapman undergraduate and graduate students with local schools and community organizations. His current research is focused on community collaboration, service-learning, and self-efficacy in writing.&#xD;<br \/>\n&#xD;<br \/>\nThis event is free.
