They did so because they believed that they had to, but also because they believed that the memorialization would aid them in a series of political and communal projects.<\/p>\n<p>Hasia Diner is the Paul and Sylvia Steinberg Professor of American Jewish History at New York University. She is the author and editor of over a dozen books, including Hungering for America: Italian, Irish, and Jewish Foodways in the Age of Migration; The Jews of the United States: 1654-2000; Roads Taken: The Great Jewish Migrations to the New World and the Peddlers Who Forged the Way. A recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship, she is an elected member of the American Academy of Jewish Research.<\/p>\n<p>Join us for to hear Dr. Diner lecture.
