\nWinner of the National Jewish Book Award, on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Fish Interfaith Center Chapel.<\/p>\n

In the two decades from the end of World War II and the Holocaust, the Jews of the United States engaged in a mass, disorganized, and grassroots project which sought to memorialize the victims of the catastrophe. They did so because they believed that they had to, but also because they believed that the memorialization would aid them in a series of political and communal projects.<\/p>\n

Hasia Diner is the Paul and Sylvia Steinberg Professor of American Jewish History at New York University. She is the author and editor of over a dozen books, including Hungering for America: Italian, Irish, and Jewish Foodways in the Age of Migration; The Jews of the United States: 1654-2000; Roads Taken: The Great Jewish Migrations to the New World and the Peddlers Who Forged the Way. A recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship, she is an elected member of the American Academy of Jewish Research.<\/p>\n
