His most recent book is the collection of poems <em><u>Life Pig. <\/u><\/em>\u00a0The Boston-born poet has published numerous collections, and his book of poems <em>Reel to Reel<\/em> was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2012. He works in both free verse and traditional poetic forms, and his recent work grapples with the intersection of private and public history.<\/p>\n<p>He has also published four books of prose, including <em>The Last Happy Occasion,<\/em> a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and <em>Broadway Baby,<\/em> a novel. He is the winner of the Kingsley Tufts Award, <em>LA Times<\/em> Book Prize, and an award in literature from The American Academy of Arts and Letters. Alan has two new books in 2016: <em>Life Pig,<\/em> a book of poems, and <em>That Self-Forgetful Perfectly Useless Concentration,<\/em> essays on convention, suffering, and self-expression. He currently teaches at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.<\/p>\n<p>The poetry talk begins at 1 p.m. in the Wilkinson Chapel, Fish Interfaith Center, followed by a poetry reading at 4 p.m. in the Henley Reading Room, 2nd Floor, Leatherby Libraries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Tabula Poetica: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/research-and-institutions\/tabula-poetica\/index.aspx\">Tabula Poetica:<\/a> The Center for Poetry at Chapman University is dedicated to creating an environment to celebrate poetry in a variety of forms and venues.
