Wilkinson College’s <\/span>War and Society MA program<\/span><\/a> is excited to announce <\/span>five new $5,000 graduate tuition scholarships<\/b>. The scholarships are named in honor of former U.S. Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis, a retired United States Marine Corps general.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Mark Chapin Johnson Foundation established the scholarships after seeing merit in what the War and Society program offers. The foundation supports the program\u2019s goals, through scholarships for students, of asking hard questions about U.S. foreign policy and the costs and benefits of using military force overseas.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThese scholarships matter because with our world in an era of \u2018persistent conflict,\u2019 Chapman University\u2019s graduate program in War and Society matters,\u201d said Professor Gregory Daddis, director of the MA in War and Society program. \u201cWe need new voices across the nation who understand war\u2019s consequences and how they can help mitigate the costs of war in the modern era.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This gift goes a long way toward helping the program and the university build a community of diverse scholars committed to working through and understanding the social, cultural, and political consequences of war. These scholarships aim to help bring nationally competitive students who want to immerse themselves the long-term national and global implications of war.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Johnson\u2019s gift is invaluable in assisting with our vision for making Chapman a nationally-recognized institution in a field of study with global impact,\u201d added Daddis.<\/span><\/p>\n
