When did you decide that you wanted to go abroad?

“I decided I wanted to go abroad before I even started college. The reason why I chose Chapman was because I knew that it had a really great study abroad program although I wasn’t sure about studying a semester abroad. I knew coming in that they had an internship summer program and travel courses.”

Is this your first time going abroad?

“I’ve only been out of the country a couple times very casually like for vacations, but I always wanted to be immersed in a culture and be immersed in a city outside of the US, so I just think this is going to be a great opportunity.”

What are you most excited for about your journey abroad?

“I’m excited to gain some self-sufficiency I guess and to gain my independence a little bit more, to explore new places and to take initiative in a completely different professional setting.”

Why did you choose Dublin?

“I chose Dublin mainly because my family is very, very Irish. I’ve been wanting to go to Dublin ever since I was a little girl. This internship is fulfilling that bucket list item. I’m very excited to experience that culture.”

When did you decide that you wanted to go abroad?

“I’ve been wanting to go abroad basically ever since I started thinking about college. My mom went to Switzerland for a couple of summers when she was in college. She has always talked about it my entire life. I’ve been hearing about it for so long that going abroad was always kind of a given part of the college experience for me. I just wasn’t sure when or how I wanted to do that.”


What are you most excited for about your journey abroad?

“I’m really excited to work in a sector that I’ve never worked in before. I’m excited to visit New Zealand after wanting to for probably 10 years of my life and I’m excited to spend the longest amount of time I’ve ever spent in a foreign country by myself. I think it will be a really unique learning experience.“

Why did you choose New Zealand?

“My fifth grade teacher was from New Zealand and she is probably up to this date the coolest person that I’ve ever met. I learned a lot about the New Zealand culture and traditions while I was in fifth grade and I was like ‘wow, that would be a really good place to go.’ Ever since then I’ve always wanted to go and the more I learn about it, the more I want to go. I looked at other places for a little bit just to see what options I had, but it was New Zealand all along honestly.”

What advice do you have for students who are thinking about going on an international internship?

“I would say my number one piece of advice is to remember that it’s an internship. This isn’t a study abroad where as long as you have decent grades and you’re a decent person, you can go. You need to have a solid resume to really get the best out of your experience.”

Kaitlyn Raymundo ’19 is excited to work abroad and gain a new perspective.

Is this your first time going abroad?

“Yes, it is. It’s hard as a science major to fit study abroad into my schedule, so I love that there was this kind of opportunity with the international internship. I felt like it was really applicable, so this is the first time I’ll be that far away from home for that long.”

Why did you choose Dublin?

“I thought that it would be really cool to experience universal healthcare, which is a different healthcare system than what we have here. I thought it would be a really cool perspective to practice healthcare somewhere else.”

Will you be traveling to any other cities or countries while you are abroad in Dublin?

“Yes! I’ve already bought the ticket over there, might as well see it all. While I’m in Dublin I’m hoping to see Scotland. I’m flying into London, so I’m going to see that city. I have relatives there which I’m excited about. I’m hoping to go to Amsterdam and then afterwards I’m spending a week in southern Europe, Greece and Italy specifically. I’m excited about that!”

What advice would you give to students who are thinking about doing an internship abroad?

“I’d say go for it. I know that we get really packed up with all of our classes. If we can find a way to go abroad and get that kind of international experience, I think it’s worth it. I think depending on how the schedule works out. Go find a way to do it. I think it’s an amazing opportunity.”

Students participating in a Summer International Internship gain cultural immersion and academic credit by working abroad on 8 week programs for 3 credits.
