Larry Iannaccone
. Since then, IRES has grown to include
Jared Rubin
(economics),
Chris Bader
(sociology),
Andrea Molle
(sociology/political science), Christopher Hale (post-doc in political science), and many visiting scholars.

IRES is the world’s leading center for scholarship in the economics of religion. It also organizes the annual meetings of the Association for the Study of Religion, Economics and Culture, runs major surveys and other grant-funded projects, and helps run

, the world’s largest archive of religious data.

In the past few years, IRES faculty have published two books plus dozens of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Another six books are in progress that shed new light on religion and deviance, new methods for studying religion, religious trends, and the economic impact of religion in the Middle East and Western Europe.

IRES “local” activities include international conferences here at Chapman, interdisciplinary research seminars, an annual workshop for doctoral students, and new courses in economics of religion, sociology of religion, and economic history.
