The Advisory Groups identify, recommend, and support creative strategies for promoting and enhancing campus diversity. They respond to issues, needs, and concerns identified within the community of focus, establish effective and collaborative working relationships between departments, offices, committees, initiatives, and advise the Chancellor of Chapman University and Chapman Diversity Response Committee on issues for each respective constituency.
This semester, the Advisory Group on the Status of Socioeconomic Stratification is trying to find immediate solutions for students who face food insecurity, create a central web location that lists resources available to low-income students, and provide access to resources often needed by commuter students.
They are also planning to lay the foundation for several longer-term initiatives, including a permanent space where students can gather and have centralized access to information and other resources, a more sustainable solution to food insecurity, and the creation of a map for commuter students to know where they can find resources such as lockers, microwaves, refrigerator access, printers and showers on campus.
“We are continuing to solicit input from students about their experiences and needs. We hope to recruit more student members for our advisory group so that student voices and needs are heard and addressed.” –Georgiana Bostean
