“Take only memories, leave only footprints.” – Chief Seattle

Taiwan, an island nation with bustling night markets, historical sites, and modern cultural scenes will provide Chapman Travel Course participants a home for 3 weeks to learn, explore and have fun! Professor I-Ting Chao will be taking Chapman students to Taiwan during the 2017 Summer Session. Students will learn about Taiwanese food and tea culture, Taiji & Qigong, Traditional Theatrical Arts in Taiwan and more!

Students that choose to participate are not required to have any previous experience with Chinese. This Travel Course will be offered in levels from beginner up to advanced. The purpose of this trip is to allow students to be exposed to a culture that they do not have the chance to explore in the west. Feng Chia University in Taichung City, Taiwan will be their host institution. Therefore, while being in Taiwan, the participants will be able to experience college dormitory life as those students in Taiwan do.

While students are immersed in this program, they will also get to experience the life of locals. Students are minutes away from the Feng Chia Night Market, one of Taiwan’s most popular nocturnal attractions. In addition, students will also be able to learn how to make sun cakes and taro cakes, both famous pastries of Taiwan. Last, but not least, students will also have the chance to tour Taipei City, Taiwan’s largest city.
