August 7, 2024
“Stop measuring days by degree of productivity and start experiencing them by degree of presence.”
-Alan Watts
This summer I’ve been considering the tension between presence and productivity, and have attempted to be more “present” and engaged in the current moment rather than multi-tasking or giving superficial attention to my tasks. This is not easy with so many opportunities for diversion! Here are some resouces that are worth a moment of your time:
- Burn Book: a Tech Love Story, for all of us in the 21st century who use technology
- The Third Chapter: recommended by a colleague as a good read for mid-life
- Teaching with AI is the latest inspiration from educator Jose Antonio Bowen, who also has an AI resource page that’s available to anyone
- Author Steven Johnson’s take on how he used AI to generate writing topics, to consider about how AI might help in the research and writing process
- Need some peaceful music as you ponder your presence? This concert by Ludovico Einaudi may be just what you are seeking.
- Want to consider how to foster a richer inner life, with more attention to beauty and wonder? This interview with author and traveler Pico Iyer might inspire you.
Perhaps you are looking for ways to garner more “presence” in your classroom? In that vein, I offer you these suggestions:
