Matt Barcellona ’99 was an infielder for the Chapman University baseball team and a two-time Academic All-American in his time at Chapman. Now, the former baseball star is a Community Pediatrician in Scottsdale, Arizona, helping lead the fight against COVID-19 on the front lines.

While the front lines of the pandemic in the pediatric world may look a little different than those of the overwhelmed emergency rooms and hospitals treating adults, Matt is still battling the severity of the pandemic every day. Matt’s practice is whole-heartedly dedicated to balancing the care of their patients with the safety and well-being of their staff. Matt’s practice is actively practicing social distancing protocols at both locations, and upon entering either location, all doctors, staff, patients and caregivers have their temperature taken.

Despite these unprecedented times, Matt says the outpouring of love and support has made these changes easier, saying, “While managing the sweeping practice changes needed to combat this pandemic is stressful, it has been heartwarming and uplifting to see the appreciation from parents and patients who are so grateful that we continue to take great care of them during this difficult time.”
