Student-Athlete Spotlight: Women’s Cross Country
January 28, 2021
Chapman University student-athletes achieved tremendous success in the classroom through the Fall 2020 semester with a 3.43 department GPA. All 21 Chapman varsity teams finished the semester over a 3.1 team GPA.
Topping all teams was the women’s cross country program, posting an incredible 3.689 team GPA last semester. The women’s cross country team has historically been one of the highest performing teams in the classroom, and they proved their academic excellence once again.
Interim Head Coach Barron Maizland expresses his pleasure with his team’s academic performance, saying “Even though we were not able to have a season this year, these talented young women continue to set high expectations for themselves during this difficult time. I am proud of their accomplishments and am looking forward to seeing them compete.”
The athletic department prides itself on stressing the importance of academics in the student-athlete experience, one that is made clear through top performance each year. This past Fall, 20 of Chapman’s 21 varsity programs posted a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, marking the Panthers’ extremely hard work in the classroom.
