Michael Lahey made a monumental impact in the Chapman Football program, and still is to this day. The two-time SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year, earning the accolade during his junior and senior seasons, is still heavily involved with the football team.

Lahey describes why he chose to play at Chapman, stating it was “because of the coaching staff, culture, and atmosphere of the program. I was able to view the top-notch football facilities, coaching offices, and gorgeous football stadium, which greatly helped the impact in my decision.” His love for the program continues as he is now the Quarterbacks coach for the Chapman Football team, helping the current and future players be like him during his time as a student-athlete. He stated taking this job was a “no brainer… because of my positive experience as a player.” Helping players have that same experience was, and still is, very important to Lahey.

Not only is Lahey apart of the team’s coaching staff, but he taking charge in organizing events to engage families and alum and fundraise the program. Earlier this month, Lahey, with the help of some Chapman Football Alum (Sam and Matt Layton, Hunter Peterson, and Jalen Dural), planned the Chapman Football Alumni Golf Tournament. Lahey stated that “It was important to host [this event] because I wanted to make sure past players and supporters still felt like they were a huge driving force of the football program. Without the help and the support of past alumni, it is nearly impossible to have a successful program and culture.” As a result, they were able to fundraise over $14,000 for the program. Lahey attributes the success to “the attendance and the fundraising support from the alumni, friends, and family. Not only did we have a sold-out event, but we also surpassed our fundraising goals which will be directly proceeding the Chapman Football Program.” Alongside the fundraising achievements, he describes that his “outside of the laughs, stories and memories spoken throughout the day, my favorite part of the tournament was bringing together recent and past alumni all under the same setting.”
