Sophomore Maddie Mirro did not miss a beat as she returned from nearly a year-long break in activity to compete this spring for the Chapman University track and field team. In just her second meet back since the Panthers’ return to competition, Maddie shattered yet another school record, this time in the 1500m.

Maddie broke the school record by over four seconds and was over 20 seconds in front of the nearest competitor. Her time of 4:39.98 currently ranks 11th in Division III. She added a second school record to her name after she set the 800m school record at the first SCIAC Multi-Dual in 2020.

Maddie’s record-breaking run came one week after she took first place in two events at Chapman’s first meet of the season. Maddie picked up right where she left off in 2020, winning the 800m and 1500m events. She ran a 2:20.48 to win the 400m by five seconds and she won the 1500m by 20 seconds, crossing the finish line at 4:47.30.

Maddie’s impressive showing at the first meet of the season earned her SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week and she will look to lead the Panthers at the SCIAC Championships on Friday, May 7th.
