Devon Tjong, a Business major with an emphasis in Marketing and a minor in the Business of Entertainment, is set to graduate from Chapman University in 2026. Reflecting on his time at Chapman, Devon shares, “My experience at Chapman has been great so far! I am enjoying but also challenging myself throughout my time here.” His journey at Chapman is marked by active campus involvement, academic achievements, and a clear vision for his future.

Active Campus Involvement

Devon’s commitment to campus life is evident through his role as the treasurer of the Asian Pacific Student Association (APSA). This position has allowed him to develop essential leadership and management skills. “Being part of APSA has been a rewarding experience, allowing me to connect with a diverse group of students and contribute to meaningful events,” he says.

Choosing Chapman and the Argyros College of Business and Economics

Devon cites the school’s size and location as key factors when asked why he chose Chapman University and the Argyros College of Business and Economics. “I chose Chapman because it is a smaller school and has a nice location,” he explains. The intimate class sizes and the opportunity to build strong connections with professors and peers were particularly appealing. “There is also a strong networking system here,” he adds, emphasizing the importance of relationships in his academic and professional growth.

Exploring the Business of Entertainment

Devon’s decision to minor in the Business of Entertainment stems from his long-standing interest in the entertainment industry. “I’ve always been interested in the entertainment industry, and I wanted to combine that with business, so naturally, this was the perfect opportunity for me,” he shares. His coursework, including the challenging Overview of Producing class, has provided him with valuable insights and skills. Devon is especially excited about upcoming classes like Entertainment Law and Inside the Music Business.

Gaining Practical Experience

In addition to his academic pursuits, Devon has gained practical experience through a digital media internship with Icy Productions. “I produced, edited, and developed videos for small businesses,” he says, reflecting on the skills he honed during his internship. This hands-on experience has been instrumental in preparing him for his future career.

Memorable Moments and Future Aspirations

Among his favorite memories at Chapman, Devon highlights the APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) Celebration. “APIDA Celebration is an annual event that brings together APIDA performers from inside and outside of the Chapman community to showcase their talent and celebrate APIDA cultures,” he explains. This event underscores Devon’s sense of community and cultural appreciation at Chapman.

Looking ahead, Devon aspires to secure a marketing role within the live entertainment industry. His academic background, coupled with his practical experience and campus involvement, positions him well to achieve his career goals.
