Undergraduate Degree:

Undergraduate Graduation Year:
2006

Work Experience (Years and Description):
2006 – 2010: hired out of undergrad as an outside sales account executive for The San Diego Union-Tribune. I was promoted in 2008 to a Senior Account Executive working with the major advertisers such as Wal-Mart, JC Penney, and Kohl’s Department Stores. I decided to leave in 2010 to work for my family’s lumber business, Strata Forest Products, to help them develop new business channels. I was able to help them grow their new business revenue by 400% in one year. I decided that in order to enhance my managerial skills I needed to go back to school and get my MBA.

Are you involved in any Chapman Activities/ Organizations (i.e., MBA Association)? If so, please describe your involvement?
I have been involved in the Argyros Linked Consulting Group. I was a consultant in the fall semester and am now leading the engagement for the spring semester. I am also involved in the Consulting Club on Campus, have been a part of the Dinner for Eight speaker series, and am participating in the Mentor Program.

What do you do for fun? What are Your Hobbies (On Campus, Off Campus):
I love to rock climb and try to make it out to Joshua Tree as often as possible. I also do CrossFit at CrossFit Fly in Newport Beach and am training to compete in local events such as the Next Level Invitational Series.  In my free time, I enjoy designing one of a kind jewelry pieces for friends and family. I also sell my designs on Etsy. I live on Balboa Island and love walking my dogs around the island and catching up with my neighbors. I love traveling and will be traveling to Stockholm and Copenhagen this summer for the Business and Scandinavia travel course this June. I plan to complete my 4th half-marathon this summer with my friends from CrossFit Fly in Vancouver, BC for the Lululemon SeaWheeze ½ marathon.

Why did you choose the Argyros School of Business and Economics (ASBE)?
I chose ASBE because of the intimate classroom experience and the reputation of the school. I want to be able to develop meaningful relationships with my classmates and professors. I loved the fact that most of the classes have the “learn by doing” philosophy where you work with local companies to help them achieve their strategic initiatives. The other factors in my decision were based on the events that ASBE hosts like the Dinner for Eight Series, the Distinguished Speaker Series, Alumni and networking events, and the mentorship program.

Favorite business course so far and why?
A: My favorite business course so far has been Designing and Managing Value Creating Organizations with Professor McCarter. The course has really taught me know to work with individuals in various situations that you are going to deal with in everyday life and business situations. I am applying the concepts I learned all the time.

What are your favorite parts of the MBA experience so far and why?
I really enjoy spending time with my classmates at the events that the ASBE puts on such as Dinner for Eight, Distinguished Speaker Series, and various Happy Hours. I have also met various alumni that have been very helpful in career decision making and networking. The alumni connection at ASBE is very strong.

Please discuss an activity you’ve been involved in (does not have to be MBA related) during your time as an MBA. Why is it important to you?
CrossFit has been a very important aspect in my life. It has taught me self-discipline as well as enhanced my teamwork skills. This is critical not only in CrossFit, but in life. I truly believe that I am more focused and driven to achieve my goals because of CrossFit. These attributes are not easy to come by and I work at them each and every day in the gym, in my life, and in my work.

What are your career goals and plans after ASBE?
I am looking to transition into a management-consulting career focusing on strategic initiatives upon graduation.  Eventually, I plan to own and operate my own niche management-consulting firm.|
