Do you have an on-campus job? Do you want to boost your resume and build skills that employers are looking for? Sign up for the Panther Professional Development Program!

The Panther Professional Development Program is a really amazing opportunity to take your part-time on-campus employment experience and develop NACE Career Competencies.

The Panther Professional Development Program is your opportunity to turn your part-time campus job into a powerful launchpad for your future. Through this program, you’ll develop and showcase the NACE Career Competencies—the essential skills employers seek in college graduates:

  • Critical Thinking
  • Leadership
  • Teamwork
  • Communication
  • Technology
  • Professionalism
  • Career and Self-Development

I know your time is valuable. That’s why this program is designed to integrate seamlessly into your current work schedule—no extra stress, just meaningful growth.

Here’s how it works:

  • Create Your Action Plan: Collaborate with your supervisor to build a personalized development plan using our easy-to-follow template.
  • Set Your Goals: Establish clear milestones and timelines to guide your progress.
  • Make It Happen: Apply your plan during your regular work hours and check in with your supervisor to stay on track.

Once you complete your plan by the end of the semester, you’ll earn a certificate from the Office of Career and Professional Development and Human Resources—a powerful way to showcase that you’re proficient in all seven NACE Career Competencies.

Why It Matters

When I joined the program, I finally had the chance to sharpen skills I’d been eager to develop—like mastering Microsoft Excel and leading a focus group with my colleagues. It was really rewarding to be able to track my progress and growth. More than simply gaining satisfaction from building my competencies, it was gratifying to see how I was leading my own growth and practicing adaptability when conflicts arose. With the support of my supervisors, I grew in ways that made me feel confident and career-ready.

Thanks to the Panther Professional Development Program, I can proudly say I’ve built experience in all seven career competencies. I’m ready to take the next step in my journey—and you can be too.

Interested?
Talk to your on-campus supervisor and ask if you can participate. Then have them reach out to Jessica Revilla at revilla@chapman.edu to get started.

  1. Together, you and your supervisor create an Action Plan that is customized to your development goals while also guaranteeing you will gain experience in each of the NACE Career Competencies (there is already a template for you and your supervisor to use, so there is no need to worry about that).
  2. Set timelines and goals for when you want to complete the milestones outlined in your Action Plan.
  3. Do It!
    • Make sure you check in with your supervisor and keep them updated on your progress.

By the end of the semester, once you’ve completed all your tasks, you will get a certificate from The Office of Career and Professional Development and Human Resources declaring you completed the program and are proficient in NACE Career Competencies.

When I participated in this program, I was super excited to be able to learn new skills I had been wanting to learn for a while, like honing my abilities on Microsoft Excel or practicing my leadership by conducting a focus group. What made this experience all the more exciting was knowing I had the support of my supervisors, who wanted me to continue to expand my skills just as much as I did.

Thanks to the Panther Professional Development Program, I feel confident in promoting to others that I have experience in all seven career competencies. Now, I feel better prepared for when the time comes to apply for jobs after college.

If you’re interested, send this to your on-campus employer to see if this program is  something you can implement in your work and have them reach out to Jessica Revilla revilla@chapman.edu about the next steps!
