Center for Global Education 2.0 A note from the Director
August 21, 2019
The Center for Global Education (CGE) is excited to share an important update regarding our office organization and advising processes. Over the summer our team has been refining our structure for student support and outreach during their program selection and application processes. Our primary goal is to have one point of contact in each of Chapman’s schools and colleges available to guide students, families, and faculty through education abroad applications and preparations, and overall streamlined engagement with the CGE.
As of August 26, our center will be newly divided into two teams: Global Education Advisors and Operations Management. Global Education Advisors, led by Jodi Hicks, will be responsible for all student advising including the application, pre-departure, while abroad, and returnee phases for all CGE programs: semester abroad, exchanges, international internships and faculty-led travel courses.
Our Global Education Advisors (GEA) will be reaching out to their individual department chairs for meetings to identify specific needs of each major. Additionally, each GEA will work with the department chairs to identify a good time and location on site at the individual colleges to be available for student and faculty drop-in hours.
Our Operations team will handle incoming exchange students, student enrollment, travel course design and set up for faculty, transcript articulation, marketing, and events management. Faculty will continue to work with Jean Lawson for Travel Course set up, budget process, expense reporting, and course wrap up.
We are optimistic that this new structure will be beneficial to our students by providing personalized attention and one primary relationship within the CGE to support them in all matters related to their global experience(s). View our student learning outcomes. As always, we will continue to provide exceptional support to our students through the education abroad experience. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions. Subscribe to our monthly newsletter to keep informed.
Reminder: Susan Sams, who has served in the CGE as a visa specialist, is now part of the Office of the Provost in the Office of Faculty Affairs as Specialist for International Scholar Services. She will be responsible for visas for faculty, post-docs and research associates. Junko Takada will be moving to the Office of Admissions to work with the admissions team on visas for new and returning students.
