Opera Chapman student shines at prestigious festival

Senior vocal performance major Milan McCray at the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria.
Milan McCray, senior vocal performance major at Chapman University’s Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music enjoyed a major success at the prestigious American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria. The summer program ended with The Meistersinger Opera Competition performed at Helmut-List-Halle on Thursday, August 9, 2018.
Milan was one of eight finalists chosen from a field of more than 60 singers. Judges for the competition include: Barbara Bonney, internationally renowned soprano and professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg; Linda Watson, famed Wagnerian soprano who performs regularly at the Vienna State Opera, Hamburg State Opera, The Metropolitan Opera and Los Angeles Opera to name a few; and Stephanie Wippel, casting director at the Vienna State Opera. Miss McCray performed Io son l’umile ancella from Act 1 of Adriana Lecouvreur by Francesco Cilea. She was accompanied by the AIMS Festival Orchestra.
