Chapman piano faculty member Ron Anderson recently tied for First Prize in the 2017 Cerddorion Emerging Composers Competition in New York for his choral composition Wilt Thou Forgive? The competition, now in its fifth year, is sponsored by the Cerddorion Vocal Ensemble, “one of New York’s most highly regarded volunteer choral ensembles.” Cerddorion is the Welsh word for “musicians.”

According to the ensemble website, cerddorion.org, the competition is “designed to foster the creation and performance of new works for mixed chorus,” with an emphasis on sacred texts. Anderson’s piece will premier with a performance and archival recording by the Ensemble in June 2017 as part of a program of sacred music entitled Reverent Cadence and Subtle Psalm.
