Professor Benitz directs “If All the Sky Were Paper” at Kirk Douglas Theater
Announced on March 5, 2015
Coming up on March 14 and 15, 2015, the play If All the Sky Were Paper, written by Chapman’s Chancellor Fellow and Director of The Center for American War Letters Andrew Carroll, and directed by Chapman University’s Associate Professor of Theatre John Benitz, will be performed at the famous Kirk Douglas Theater in Culver City, CA.
Presented by Lexikat Artists, the play is based on Carroll’s travels around the world to find and preserve letters written by soldiers and their families during American wars. Carroll is also the bestselling author of War Letters and Behind the Lines, which feature previously unpublished letters from every conflict in U.S. history.
The theater writes, “In the performance, Carroll is played by a narrator who recounts his world-wide journey, which ranges from the humorous and inspiring to the heartbreaking and harrowing. A cast of actors portray the troops (as well as loved ones at home), acting out the full spectrum of emotions and experiences contained in their letters to one another. From the incredible drama and ferocity of battle and combat to the moments of camaraderie and levity these individuals experienced firsthand, these are their extraordinary stories, as only they can tell them.”
