Tenure Awarded Posthumously for Assistant Professor Dominique Schafer
Announced on April 13, 2020
Dominique Schafer, assistant professor of music composition, has been awarded tenure posthumously. Professor Schafer passed away in mid-2019 after battling pancreatic cancer for a year. A renowned composer with an impressive international reputation, Dominique was a kind and engaging colleague who brightened the classrooms and hallways of the Conservatory of Music and the entire Chapman campus with his warm smile and always-positive attitude. Dominique was an exceptional and rigorous teacher, who also designed and implemented the electro-acoustic music emphasis in our music composition degree and made significant contributions to our music technology area during his six years at Chapman. Dominique’s tireless work ethic, brilliance, humility, and sunny disposition is missed throughout the Conservatory and the College of Performing Arts. He is survived by his wife, composer Mu-Xuan Lin, who also teaches in the Conservatory of Music and is a popular music theory teacher.
