Congratulations to music major Joy Liu (’15) for her first place wins at the California Percussive Arts Society’s Competition Festival this April. Joy placed first in both the collegiate solo multiple-percussion and the collegiate solo marimba divisions. Music alumna Erin Gonzalez (’08) has been chosen for a mezzo studio artist position in the Florentine Opera Studio in Milwaukee for the 2013 – 2014 season. She will also be an Advanced Artist in the OperaWorks training program in Los Angeles this summer.

The Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music Artist-In-Residence, mezzo-soprano Milena Kitic, has signed a contract with LA Opera for the 2013-2014 season. She will perform the title role in Carmen on Sept 28, and will also appear in the run of Thais with Plácido Domingo as Athanael.
Congratulations to our winners in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Collegiate Auditions held at Biola University on March 23. There were 110 students who participated from ten different universities, from UC Santa Barbara to Riverside City College. William Fitzpatrick, adjunct professor of music, gave a master class in violin at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music on February 23. The class featured performances of pieces by Bach, Barber and Tchaikovsky. Professor Fitzpatrick also enjoyed visiting with former students from MusiShare and Chapman that are currently attending the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
