I am so excited to announce that coming up next week, the AES (Audio Engineering Society), LA Section, is screening the latest Coen Brothers’ film, True Grit, right here at Dodge College in the Folino theater.  It’s playing next Saturday, December 11th, a full week and a half before its December 22nd theatrical premiere!  Save the date, finish your exams, and get ready to see some fantastic cinema before most everyone else!

About the film:

Directed by Ethan and Joel Coen, the film stars Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld, and Josh Brolin, and is based on the 1969 film of the same title, starring John Wayne.

[Slight spoiler warning] Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. marshal she can find, a man with “true grit,” Reuben J. “Rooster” Cogburn. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and surprises on the journey, and each has his or her “grit” tested.

The Coen Brothers have an absurdly fantastic, prolific filmmaking career spanning the last 30 years.  Some of their best known include The Big Lebowski, Fargo, and Raising Arizona, as well as the recent hits No Country for Old Men, A Serious Man, and Burn After Reading, among many, many others.  (My personal favorite, of those not listed, is actually their first major feature, Blood Simple, a vicious tale of love, murder, and revenge.  If you haven’t, watch it ASAP – and yes, it’s on Netflix)

Unfortunately, space is going to be very limited, and the holiday season means we’ll be a bit more crowded than usual, but stay tuned because later this week, we’ll be letting you know how you can RSVP – definitely grab a Twitter account and follow us if you want to be the first to know – or at least, where to stand in line.
