Chapman University Student Awarded Scholar at Sea Scholarship

PRLog (Press Release)Jan 31, 2011 – McGuire is currently attending the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) program Semester at Sea. (http://www.semesteratsea.org/)  His exceptional essay submitted to The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), an honor society to which he belongs, earned him the scholarship.

McGuire is a sophomore Digital Arts major with a Visual Effects emphasis at the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. His is a native of Needham, MA where he attended Needham High School.

“When I found out I received the award I was both excited and relieved,” said McGuire. “It is great to know that there are organizations that support students who wish to expand their education by traveling abroad and I felt honored to be selected as one of those students.”

Partnering with the ISE program, NSCS awards over $48,000 in scholarships throughout the year to assist students enrolled in the Scholar at Sea program. Three $5,900 scholarships are awarded each summer semester and one $10,000 scholarship for the fall and spring semesters.

The Semester at Sea program allows students to visit nearly a dozen countries while studying on a shipboard campus. Students will experience different cultures and learn about global diversity as they continue their education and work closely with other students from different backgrounds.
