The Fowler School of Engineering is gearing up for another great year, especially with the addition of more faculty. Fall 2024 looks promising for our school as we continue to provide personalized education and innovative curriculum to our students. We are excited to welcome six new full-time faculty members to our team.

Each of these faculty members brings their own unique background in technical education and industry experience.

Doug Havard, Instructional Assistant Professor

Doug Havard

Professor Doug Havard has an extraordinarily unique background in aerospace engineering and education. Professor Harvard is dedicated to uncovering the locations, frames, contexts, typologies, and environments where educational inequities in STEM career pathways occur. He is also committed to advocating for systemic changes to policy, practice, curriculum, and research that support all students.

Goldie Malamud, Instructor

Goldie Malamud

Fall 2024 Courses:

  • CPSC 308 – Enterprise Data Management
  • CPSC 408 – Database Management

Professor Malamud is a double Chapman University alumna! In her undergraduate career, she double majored in mathematics and computer science. Malamud furthered her education at Chapman and earned her Master’s degree in Computational and Data Science.

One of her notable contributions includes leading research initiatives aimed at accelerating the development of RAG-based Generative AI applications and pushing solutions across the production-ready finish line, positioning enterprises to leverage AI for enhanced decision-making and innovation. Her expertise in this area has helped businesses unlock new opportunities for growth and efficiency.

Alireza Mehrnia, Associate Professor

Alireza Mehrnia, Ph.D., MBA

Fall 2024 Courses:

  • CENG 330 – Digital Logic Design
  • EENG 398 – Statistical Data and Signa, Analysis
  • ENGR 101 – Foundations of Design and Fabrication

Dr. Alireza Mehrnia is eager to bring his knowledge in both business management and electrical engineering to the Fowler School of Engineering. Dr. Mehrnia has more than 15 years of experience in high-tech industry and holds more than 20 granted or pending patents. He worked at SpaceX from 2015 to 2023 where he led the design of signal processing and wireless communication techniques for chips enabling 6000+ Starlink satellites and 2M+ user terminals (globally deployed) to realize the first commercial Giga-bit/s satellite constellation and communication system.

Ismieal Muhsin, Instructional Associate Professor

Ismieal Muhsin

Fall 2024 Courses:

  • CENG 351 – Computer Architecture I
  • CPSC 353 – Data Communication and Computer Networks
  • ENGR 101 – Foundations of Design and Fabrication

Dr. Ismieal Muhsin combines over 15 years of academic teaching in electronics, renewable energy, and data communication with extensive industry experience at Hitachi and AMI-MED, and a diplomatic career as an Ambassador focusing on economic relations and global energy. His expertise encompasses digital logic, microprocessor fundamentals, control systems, AI, and renewable energy.

Jonathan Weinberger, Assistant Professor

Jonathan Weinberger

Fall 2024 Courses:

  • CPSC 354 – Programming Languages

Dr. Jonathan Weinberger is a Technical University of Darmstadt of Germany alumnus with over ten years of experience in academia. Dr. Weinberger specializes in theoretical computer science and mathematical logic. His work involves the use of category theory and (homotopy) type theory, which are foundational theories that aim to encompass and unify various concepts and structures in computer science (such as programming languages, software verification, and computability theory) and mathematics (including algebra, topology, and geometry).

Miyuki Weldon, Instructor

Miyuki Weldon

Fall 2024 Courses:

  • ENGR 300 – 3D Printing and Design

Over the past three years, Instructor Miyuki Weldon has had the remarkable opportunity to develop the engineering makerspace at Chapman University from the very start. Instructor Weldon is transitioning from Fowler Engineering’s Makerspace Manager to full-time instructor and will be dedicated to teaching and creating classes that leverage the exceptional resources within the Chapman Makerspace.
