Chapman University’s roots go back to 1860, when it was founded as Hesperian College in Woodland, California, one of the first colleges in the West to admit students regardless of sex or race. That legacy carried forward to 2013, with the opening of the Harry & Diane Rinker Health Science Campus in Irvine, home to Chapman University School of Pharmacy.
As America marks its 250th anniversary, we’re proud that this history now has a place on the AIHP Atlas of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical History, a digital project from the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
CUSP’s entry traces our founding class in 2014 through our first Pharm.D. graduates in 2019, and the deliberate growth since, including the 2026 addition of the MS in Regulatory Affairs.
Our entry sits among more than 2,500 pins on the Atlas at AIHP.org/Atlas, a digital map mixing scientific history with pop culture, from Revolutionary War apothecaries to the surprising pharmacy roots of the Jeep and Breck shampoo.
Being included alongside institutions with deep roots in pharmacy history reminds us how far CUSP has come in just over a decade, and we’re excited for what we’ll add next.
