Chapman University is first U.S. host of International Games Innovation Conference, Nov. 2
Orange, Calif. (October 16, 2011) —Chapman University will host the third annual Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) International Games Innovation Conference on November 2, 2011 – the first time the conference will be held in the United States, after previously being hosted in London and Hong Kong. Hosted by Chapman’s Schmid College of Science and Technology, the conference will take place in the Sandhu Conference Center on the Chapman campus. Chapman University is located at One University Drive in Orange, Calif.
IEEE is the world’s largest association for the advancement of technology, with more than 400,000 members in 160 countries. Attendees at the 2011 event will be able to experience both stimulating discussion and presentations on the latest developments in game technology and its uses. Trip Hawkins, founder of Electronic Arts, 3DO and Digital Chocolate, will be the opening keynote speaker. Other distinguished keynote speakers include Robert J. Mical of Sony, a pioneer in the video game industry; and Craig Hampel, a Rambus Fellow and distinguished inventor.
$3,000 of prizes will be given out at the event, including an X-Box360, aPlaystation 3 and Wii Consoles, as well as Nintendo 3DS and Kinect sensors.
Chapman’s School of Computational Sciences includes classes leading to a minor in game development. Students graduating with this minor are prepared to compete for positions in the rapidly growing areas of interactive media and game development. The curriculum for the minor has been designed in consultation with Chapman’s advisory board of industry professionals from companies including Blizzard, Sony, inXile and Obsidian.
