ABA fully reaccredits Chapman University Law School for another seven years

ORANGE, Calif. – The American Bar Association (ABA) has just granted California based Chapman University Law School full reaccreditation, without conditions, for another seven years. ABA law school accreditation is a comprehensive process involving site visits and committee work demonstrating that the school is in full compliance with all ABA standards.

“Although not a surprise, we are thrilled with this news,” said Dean Tom Campbell. “A complete re-accreditation without conditions means Chapman Law School has fully arrived: we’re a respected member of the legal academic community. We have outstanding faculty and students, a greatly supportive university administration, and strong encouragement from our board members, as well as from both the business and legal communities.”

The law school accreditation process involves comprehensive analysis of data on curriculum, faculty, facilities, fiscal and administrative capacity, technology resources, student profiles, bar passage rates, and student placement data. Additionally, a site evaluation team visits the law school for a three-day period where meetings are held with the dean and university administrators, as well as every member of the faculty. Further, the team visits as many classes as it can to look at the quality of instruction, and meets with individual faculty, administrators, and students.

Last year, The ABA Journal published an article that shined an academic spotlight on the scholarly work of Chapman’s top-tier law programs. The article, discussing a new University of St. Thomas report, identified Chapman as one of three newer law schools accredited within the past two decades that “have already made a scholarly impact that dramatically outpaces their present academic reputations.”
