Chapman University’s Annual Sholund Scholarship Concert Celebrates Student Talent on Saturday, May 10
Established in memory of Chapman faculty member Edgar Roy Sholund, Ph.D., the Sholund Scholarship Concert forges a new tradition this year by offering student solo, duo and small ensemble performances.
ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University’s annual Sholund Scholarship Concert, presented by the university’s Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music, will break with tradition this year as it showcases the talent of individual students. Rather than a full-size orchestral performance as it has been in previous years, the 2014 concert will be a more intimate experience with a variety of solo, duo and small ensemble performances.
The concert takes place Saturday, May 10 at 4 p.m. in Chapman’s Memorial Hall. Tickets are $20 general admission; $15 for senior citizens, alumni and non-Chapman students; and $10 for Chapman students, faculty and staff. Tickets can be purchased by calling 714-997-6812 or visiting www.chapman.edu/music.
The program features Chapman students from the brass, guitar, keyboard, percussion, strings, vocal and woodwind areas of the Conservatory. The program will reflect a range of genres and periods, including classical, contemporary and world music, with works by Vincenzo Bellini, Paul Bonneau, Gaetano Donizetti, Roland Dyens, Lou Harrison, Johan Halvorsen, Franz Liszt, Lukas Ligeti, and Francis Thomé.
All proceeds from the concert benefit the Sholund Music Scholarship Fund, established in memory of Edgar Roy Sholund, Ph.D., a longtime and much beloved member of the Chapman University music faculty who passed away in 1966. The Sholund Scholarship has awarded over $50,000 to Chapman music students since its establishment in 1973.
