ORANGE, Calif. – An elite group of five top Chapman University vocal music students will travel to Boston, Mass. June 6-8 to offer three showcase performances in the area. Chapman University, a mid-sized, comprehensive private university located in Orange in the heart of Southern California, has been renowned for more than 70 years for its outstanding vocal music programs, with highly trained vocal musicians graduating to perform in many of the world’s top opera companies, professional choral ensembles and on the Broadway stage.
The vocalists’ program at the first two venues – Friend Recital Hall at Berklee College of Music and The Community House in South Hamilton — will include operatic standards and musical theater selections. The group’s third performance, during the Sunday worship service at Eliot Church in Newton, Mass., will include religious and oratorio selections as well as some secular music. The group, under the direction of Peter Atherton, D.M.A., associate professor of music and director of Opera Chapman, will perform as soloists and in varied ensemble selections.
The student singers, all vocal performance majors at Chapman University’s Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music, College of Performing Arts, are Kylena Parks ’15, Andrei Bratkovski ’15, Alexandra Rupp ’17, Kevin Gino ’14 and Daniel Shipley ’15. They will be accompanied by pianist Cheryl Lin Fielding, D.M.A., of Chapman University’s keyboard faculty.
All three performances are free and open to the public.
