Chapman University appoints Shan Steinmark as Director of the Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics
Serial entrepreneur and Tech Coast Angel Shan Steinmark, Ph.D., is Chapman University’s Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics new Director. Beginning in this position December 1st last year, Dr. Steinmark is no stranger to Chapman having served as a lead mentor with the Leatherby Center for the past two years.
“All real economic growth is a function of innovation,” Steinmark said. “Therefore, my vision in this current capacity is to inspire leadership of change and growth to improve individual, team and organization effectiveness – through creativity and collaboration,” he continued.
In addition to leading the Leatherby Center, Steinmark will work closely with Gene Alexander, the director of Chapman University’s LaunchLab Incubator. At any one time, Launch Labs houses approximately 30 student entrepreneur teams who develop start-up businesses. The Leatherby Center and Launch Labs include lead mentors and entrepreneurs-in-residence, as well as a growing number of peer-mentors and student instructors who are either currently enrolled at Chapman or recent graduates.
Steinmark has a rich and diverse history dating back 40 years, co-founding several companies including Strategic Transitions Research, Team 1:10:100 LLC, and EyeOnBusiness Institute. For several decades his focus was leading strategic change in Fortune Corporate America and, more recently, helping start-ups both in Hawaii and California. Steinmark will be continuing his role as host of a regular cable television segment called
EyeOnBusiness Innovation
, which is dedicated to educating the Southern California community and often includes leaders and entrepreneurs from Chapman.
“My dual-passion has always been educating students – from undergraduates to C-suite executives as well as helping accelerate the growth of businesses,” said Steinmark. “The really great news is that, at Chapman and the Leatherby Center, I get to do both at the same time.”
In his early years Steinmark began as a clinician & researcher, but he quickly became heavily involved in Fortune 500 companies in high-involvement, high-immersion, and high-intensity relationships with rapid growth divisions, R&D functions & “intrapreneurs”. Currently Steinmark is an Angel investor, mentor and board advisor.
Argyros School Dean Reggie Gilyard stated, “we selected Dr. Steinmark from an exceptional group of candidates because of his demonstrated track record and the strong vision which he articulated for building on the excellent momentum of the center.”
