Chapman University Professor is a 2017 Guggenheim Fellow
Chapman University lecturer Victoria Chang has been named a 2017 Guggenheim Fellow. Announced earlier this week by the Guggenheim Foundation, Chang is one of 173 Fellows selected across the nation and Canada, out of nearly 3,000 applicants. Chang is one of only 11 poets receiving the honor. Poetry Fellows typically receive $50,000 to support their current and future creative work.
Chang is a lecturer in Chapman’s English and Creative Writing Department. For the past two years Chang has been teaching advanced poetry workshops for both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as techniques in poetry courses. Chang’s Guggenheim Fellowship is for one year.
“We are so thrilled for Victoria for winning a Guggenheim Fellowship,” said Patrick Fuery, Ph.D., dean of Chapman’s Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. “This accomplishment illustrates the vitality and importance of knowledge and leadership in the arena of social science.”
Guggenheim Fellows are appointed on the basis of impressive achievement in the past and exceptional promise for future accomplishment. In all, 49 scholarly disciplines and artistic fields, 64 different academic institutions, 27 states and the District of Columbia, and three Canadian provinces are represented in the 2017 class of Fellows, who range in age from 27 to 79.
