ALISO VIEJO and ORANGE, Calif.—Aug. 10, 2015—
Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, and Chapman University today announced Microsemi has donated $1 million in support of Chapman University’s Center for Science and Technology. The center, opening in fall 2018, will be part of Chapman’s
Schmid College of Science and Technology
, which aims to educate students interested in science and technology careers.

“Microsemi is honored to play such an important role in supporting Chapman University and ensuring Schmid College is a nationally and internationally recognized leader for innovation in the sciences,” said James J. The center will feature the Microsemi Teaching Electronics Laboratory and Microsemi Software Engineering Laboratory, which will provide important dedicated space and equipment to support faculty mentorship of Chapman’s students as they learn to master integrating hardware design and software engineering. As part of the Schmid College of Science and Technology, the Center for Science and Technology will be designed to enrich undergraduate and graduate science education through hands-on research, provide students and faculty with cutting-edge facilities and equipment, and support leading research and innovative teaching methodologies.

“We deeply value our partnership with Microsemi and are excited to be collaborating with such a great corporate leader under the visionary leadership of Jim Peterson,” said Dr. James L. Doti, Chapman University’s president. “The Center for Science and Technology is a key priority in Chapman’s continued growth in the sciences and Microsemi’s generous support will enable both students and faculty to access cutting-edge labs for future research.”

Chapman’s Schmid College offers traditional majors as well as undergraduate and graduate degree programs that emphasize the application of computational techniques to problems in the natural sciences, that approach sciences through an interdisciplinary perspective, and that connect the abstract understanding of the environment to present day environmental concerns linked to the watershed, climate change, and natural and man-made disasters. Its faculty has active research agendas through which they mentor students in the pursuit of their own research and scholarship.

“This commitment from Microsemi underscores its shared dedication with Chapman to graduate and undergraduate STEM education, and to the preparation of students for the modern workforce,” stated Andrew Lyon, Ph.D, dean of the Schmid College of Science and Technology.

This announcement continues in the trajectory of Chapman University’s dedication to growth in science. Within the past few years, the university has created the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, the opening of a new health science campus in Irvine, and the opening of Orange County’s first School of Pharmacy.
