ORANGE, Calif., March 7, 2016 —
Tickets are on sale and selling quickly for the Opening & Preview Season of Chapman University’s new Marybelle and Sebastian P.
Musco Center for the Arts
, featuring music, dance and theatre events throughout April and May by professional and University artists and ensembles. Tickets are available for purchase online via Musco Center’s website at

The Opening & Preview Season will include internationally acclaimed virtuosos and ensembles that define excellence, as well as the finest Chapman student performances from the University’s nationally recognized College of Performing Arts (CoPA), which encompasses the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music, the Department of Dance and the Department of Theatre.

Kicking things off with a day filled with performances and fun, the Center will throw its doors open to the entire community on Saturday, April 2 with a free Community Open House & Arts Festival from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Open House will include performances on four stages inside and outside the Center, by artists from all over Southern California: musicians, singers, dancers, ensembles and much more, as well as backstage tours, family activities and much more.  The day includes a showcase performance by College of Performing Arts soloists and ensembles, as well as a concert by Pacific Symphony.  Details will be announced soon.

As for the rest of the spring:  “We have an extraordinary line-up of artists for the Opening & Preview Season at Musco Center,” said

, the Center’s founding dean and artistic director. “This will be the perfect introduction to the beauty, range and power of future seasons at this magnificent new center for the arts.”

Performances for the Opening & Preview Season represent a diverse range of world talents, ensembles and entertainers. Highlights include a new CoPA production of Shakespeare’s 
The Merchant of Venice
, staged to coincide with the Bard’s 400th birthday, as well as music and dance by The Chapman Orchestra, Opera Chapman and other outstanding student ensembles.

Renowned visiting artists and companies on the roster include:

  • Los Angeles Percussion Quartet
  • The Stan Kenton Legacy Orchestra, joined by the Chapman Big Band & Jazz Combo, for Jumpin’ with Stan Kenton
  • Musco Center Distinguished Piano Series, presenting the 14th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Gold Medal‑winning concert pianist Vadym Kholodenko
  • Great Voices Series with renowned American opera baritone Rod Gilfry
  • Arts & Lecture Speaker Series with Jeff Corwin, American animal and nature conservationist and Animal Planet host
  • American Idol star David Archuleta appearing at Chapman’s Baccalaureate Interfaith Service, leading into the University’s Commencement weekend


Musco Center was designed by award-winning architects
Pfeiffer Partners
, with acoustics by world‑renowned Yasuhisa Toyota of
Nagata Acoustics
. Once complete, it will serve as a new cultural beacon for campus life and the broader community, giving notice that world‑class arts education and artistic achievement have found a new home in Southern California.
