Chapman University Dedicates A. Gary Anderson Economics Suite to the late Essie Adibi February 21, 2017, MEDIA INVITED
Chapman University will dedicate the suite in the
A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research
in memory of its long-time popular economist Dr. Esmael “Essie” Adibi. Thanks to a generous donation from
SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union
—where Dr. Adibi served as a board member and on various committees for 17 years —the office will now be known as the Esmael Adibi, Ph.D., Director’s Suite.
Dr. Adibi joined the Chapman faculty in 1978 and was appointed director of the A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research in 1985, and eventually was appointed the A. Gary Anderson Chair of Economic Analysis. His research interests focused on analyzing key economic indicators for the U.S. and California, and he was widely quoted in and interviewed by the media on issues of economics.
Dr. Adibi was perhaps best known to the Southern California public as the genial and intellectual presenter of the Chapman University Economic Forecasts, which he delivered live on a succession of the largest stages in Orange County over the past 38 years along with fellow economist Dr.
Jim Doti
. Because of their accuracy, the forecasts grew to be widely trusted by California business people and media outlets throughout the nation. Adibi
passed away
in April of last year.
“Essie had the unique ability to make economics not only understandable for students and the public, but also fun,” said
Daniele Struppa
, president of Chapman University. “It’s so appropriate that we name this suite after him, and that SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union made it possible.”
The suite is located in Beckman Hall on Chapman University’s main campus in Orange, and will be dedicated on February 21, at 5:30 p.m. Media are welcome to attend.
