Jeff Goad
, has achieved the rank of Fellow of the
International Society of Travel Medicine
. This lifetime credential is for professionals who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the field of travel medicine. Dr. Goad joins the second cohort of Fellows from this Society and is the only U.S. pharmacist to be inducted as a Fellow. Dr. Goad will be honored at an awards ceremony taking place in May in Barcelona, Spain.

“I am truly honored to have been included among this prestigious group of travel medicine professionals,” said Dr. Goad, FAPhA, FCPhA, and FCSHP, professor and chair of the department of pharmacy practice at Chapman University’s School of Pharmacy. “The more we can educate the public about the risks of international travel and how travel medicine healthcare professionals, like pharmacists, can minimize or eliminate those risks, the safer the traveling population will be,” continued Dr. Goad.

A longtime leader in the field of travel medicine, Dr. Goad’s research examines the social and behavioral aspects of consumer and healthcare professional’s decision making process and outcomes related primarily to immunizations and travel medicine. The goal of his research and advocacy is to bring a better understanding of the value of immunization and travel medicine and the contribution of pharmacists to these preventative health services.

In addition to becoming a Fellow with the International Society of Travel Medicine, Dr. Goad was also recently selected as this year’s winner of the Ronald P. Bangasser, MD, Immunization Leadership Award by the
California Immunization Coalition
. The Ronald P. Bangasser Immunization Leadership Award was established in 2008 to honor the dedication and service of Dr. Bangasser who was a leader within the California Adult Immunization Coalition. This annual award recognizes the work of an outstanding practicing clinician who exemplifies the leadership, professionalism and commitment that he brought to his work in promoting immunizations.

Dr. Goad is the immediate Past- President of the California Immunization Coalition, the first pharmacist to lead that group. He is also the immediate Past-Chair and founding member of the Pharmacists Professional Group Section of the International Society of Travel Medicine. Previously, Dr. Goad served as the President of the California Pharmacists Association. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy in 1994 and Masters of Public Health from the USC Keck School of Medicine in 2003. He completed a residency in pediatric pharmacy practice at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and holds the Certificate of Knowledge in Travel Health from the International Society of Travel Medicine.

According to the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM): Established in 1991, ISTM has 3,500 members in more than 100 countries and is the largest organization of professionals dedicated to the advancement of the specialty of travel medicine. At the 25 year anniversary of the Society, established the Fellow credential to recognize individuals who advocate for and support the ISTM, and to those who demonstrate professional excellence either in the way of clinical practice, research, education, and/or policy development. The first class of Fellows was created in 2016.
