Chapman University will host “The Evolution of Sports Business,” an all-day symposium featuring the president and CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers Stan Kasten on Friday, April 14.

This is the 4th year Chapman’s Fowler School of Law has hosted a sports law symposium. The event is designed to engage and inform law students, attorneys, and community members about cutting-edge issues in sports law and business. The symposium is presented in association with the Sports Lawyers Association and is sponsored by Greenberg Gross LLP.

“We are so pleased Dodger president Stan Kasten can join us,” said Matt Parlow, dean of Chapman’s Fowler School of Law. “His long history of success, along with the expertise of our panelists, will create great insights about the rapidly-evolving and exciting world of sports law.”

Stan Kasten, CEO of Los Angeles Dodgers

For more than three decades, Kasten has been a highly respected sports figure and has developed a reputation for creating winning sports franchises. He became president and CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 30, 2012.  Under Kasten, the Dodgers have won four consecutive NL West titles, a first in franchise history, led the Major League in attendance each of those years, and revitalized the Dodgers’ minor league system into what Baseball America has declared is No. 1 in baseball. In 1999, he became the first sports figure to hold the title of president of three different teams in three different major sports simultaneously. He accomplished this unique feat with Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves, the National Basketball Association’s Atlanta Hawks and the National Hockey League’s Atlanta Thrashers. In 1979, at age 27, Kasten became the youngest general manager in NBA history with the Atlanta Hawks.

Symposium panels include: Broadening the Scope of Sports Law; Emerging Trends in Sports: The Business of eSports; and Thriving as a Sports Agent in a Highly Competitive Market. Kasten will speak at the keynote luncheon. More information on the symposium, including a list of panelists, can be found at: http://www.chapman.edu/law/events/symposia/entertainment-sports-symposium/2017-symposium.aspx.
