Chapman University Fowler School of Law has added Steven P. Ruden, Ph.D., JD to its Board of Advisors. Mr. Ruden is currently a partner with Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear LLP, which specializes in intellectual property law. Particularly poignant, Mr. Ruden is the first alumnus of the law school to serve on the board. He was the recipient of the first annual Chapman Law Alumnus of the Year in 2011.
“We are thrilled to have Steve Ruden join our board,” said Tom Campbell, Dean of the Fowler School of Law. “Steve begins a legacy by being the first alumnus on our advisory board. That combined with his expertise in intellectual property positions him as a tremendous asset to the Fowler School of Law and our students.”Ruden brings a unique background to the Board of Advisors, having been a professor of physics at the University of California, Irvine for 15 years prior to enrolling in law school. Upon graduation from the law school in 2005, where he was ranked first out of 130 graduates, Ruden went straight to work for Knobbe, Martens, Olsen & Bear LLP where he uses his technical expertise in physics, optics and lasers, image and signal processing, computer software, e-commerce, financial systems and medical devices.

Ruden brings substantive legal and scientific knowledge, as well as leadership in the Orange County Lawyers’ Chapter of the Federalist Society, and as a member of the Licensing Executives Society and the Orange County Patent Law Association.
