Have you heard? Our students are back! There is just something about a bustling college campus that brings energy and excitement to the forefront.

Good neighbors

Being Good Neighbors in Old Towne.

It’s been a busy summer for Community Relations as we prepared to welcome back students living off campus into the neighborhood. In partnership with Athletics, Greek Life, Public Safety, and the Orange Police Department, we have worked hard to make sure students are aware of the expectations of living in an area like Old Towne Orange. It’s an educational approach, as we certainly understand that some students may be living off campus for the first time, and we feel it’s important to give students tools for success as citizens.

Additionally, we have continued our various community outreach activities. One item of note occurred in July when I was installed as the Chair-Elect of the Orange Chamber of Commerce. I’m honored to be voted into the role by a fantastic board of directors and I’m looking forward to continuing to strengthen Chapman’s partnership with our local business community.

As always, we encourage our Chapman Family to participate in local community events. Here are a few upcoming ones to consider adding to your calendar:

State of the City

State of the City BannerChapman University is proud to be the title sponsor of State of the City, Mayor Mark A. Murphy’s annual address to the business community of Orange. And, for the second year running, the event will be held at the Musco Center of the Arts! We’re excited to welcome city and elected officials, local business owners, and other important community members to campus on October 7th. If you’re interested in attending, tickets can be purchased here. Consider making an evening of it, too. Many Old Towne restaurants are offering a discount on your meal when you show your event ticket!

Treats in the Streets

Community Relations at Treats in the Streets 2021

Join our local community for Halloween fun on October 27th in the Orange Plaza. Youngsters in full costume trick-or-treat at local businesses and at various booths set up around the Plaza. Last year, Chapman’s Student Government Association and Community Relations hosted a pumpkin-painting booth—it was a hit! Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to volunteer for a shift in our booth.
