What’s Happening in Town? Talk of the Town Spring 2024
March 27, 2024
Dear Town & Gown Members:
I hope each of you are doing well. It’s my pleasure to bring you news from our local community.
Community Partner Recognition by the City of Orange
On March 12th, Chapman University was honored by the City Council for our long-standing sponsorship of city events. Chapman is proud to be an Orange Tree Partner of the City’s community service department. Through our sponsorship, the University supports events like the 3rd of July, Treats in the Streets, and the Holiday Chorale and Tree Lighting.
Chapman Student Attends State of the Union as Guest of Local Congressman
Chapman student Valeria Delgado was invited to be a guest of Congressman Lou Correa at the State of the Union Address last week in Washington DC. This is the first time the Congressman has asked a Chapman student to attend with him and we’re thrilled that Valeria was able to have this experience.

Chapman Student Honored as Volunteer of the Month at Friendly Center
Kaitlin Gannaway, a sophomore studying education, has been passionately contributing her skills as a work-study tutor to Friendly Center’s after-school tutoring program for two years. She was recently recognized for her contributions in this great blog post. Friendly Center is one of Chapman University’s community partners and I’m honored to serve on their board of directors.
Fun fact: Friendly Center CEO, Dr. Kenia Cueto, is an alumna of Attallah College!

As always, here are few events I am looking forward to in the coming months:
The Orange May Parade Returns on Saturday, May 4th
Chapman is proud to sponsor the Orange Chamber of Commerce’s May Parade, taking place this year on May the 4th! The theme, “Come to the Orange Side,” is sure to be a fun one. If you’d like to participate in our parade entry, please feel free to reach out to me.

3rd of July Celebration on Wednesday, July 3rd
The City of Orange’s signature event, the 3rd of July, will take place from 4pm to 9pm at Grijalva Park. Community members can enjoy food and entertainment in the afternoon and end the evening with a spectacular fireworks display. If you plan on attending, please make sure to find our booth and say hello. It’s always lovely to see a friendly face!
