Town & Gown is pleased to spotlight members Bill and Susan Richardson and to welcome them.  Their Chapman connection began with the enrollment of their daughter Claire in 2002. The family, including older daughter Saren, was living in Pleasanton at the time, with high schooler Claire deeply involved in activities through Lafayette Christian Church, an affiliate of Disciples of Christ. Through this connection, she learned of and attended, with her parents, a Living Stones Conference weekend at Chapman, at which time she “fell in love” with Chapman, and made it her first and only choice for college.  Throughout her four years, Claire says that Chapman made her who she is today, nurturing and encouraging her, leading her to a BA in Religious Studies followed by a Master of Divinity at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, and now to serve the patients and staff of Providence St. Joseph hospital in Burbank as Chaplain. Susan and Bill are deeply grateful to Chapman for its positive impact on Claire’s life and remain committed to serving in every way possible to “give back” through personal service, including membership in Town & Gown.

Bill and Susan are both graduates of the University of Louisville in Kentucky and originally came to Pleasanton in 1988 through his work, later moving to Orange for an appealing job opportunity. Bill holds a degree in mechanical engineering, having worked for several years in aviation and retired from electronic security technical and sales training – taking him to all 50 states and 23 countries!

Susan, a biology major in college, was active in medical research at University of Louisville and Emory University in Atlanta prior to moving into education, teaching preschool through high school while raising their two daughters. She remains active in church activities as a volunteer. Both have enjoyed volunteering for years as ushers at Musco Center, and Bill also serves as a docent at Hilbert Museum.

Welcome, Bill and Susan– the Chapman family is delighted to have your continued participation!
