Flip (previously known as Flipgrid) is moving out of Canvas
June 4, 2024
Announcement
On June 4, 2024, Flip (previously known as Flipgrid) announced they would limit the use of Flip to within the Microsoft Teams for Education environment. This means that the current integration in Canvas will stop working on July 1, 2024. Some faculty reported receiving this announcement via email. At this time, there is no announcement on the Flip website, but we were able to find the announcement on social media.
What if I currently use Flip in my classroom or in Canvas?
If you are a current user of Flip via the flip.com website or through Canvas, you will need to transition to some other workflow. While we have not had time to test any other integrations yet, some options appear to be:
- Padlet Backpack for Schools (available in Canvas; a limited number of licenses available)
- YuJa in Canvas
- the native recording feature located in the rich content editor of Canvas
What if I have videos in Flip?
You will still have access to download your Flip videos through September 30, 2024.
