Founded in late 2012, Chapman50 is an exclusive group designed to connect influential alumni leaders in a university-wide network unlike any other. Comprising fifty founding members under the age of 50, Chapman50 enacts the mission of Chapman University by encouraging alumni leadership and professional development in all fifty states and across the globe.

Over the next few months, we will be putting the spotlight on the members of Chapman50.  First up is Sinan Kanatsiz ’97 (M.A. ’00), chairman and founding member of Chapman50.

What inspired you to become a member of Chapman50?

The need of giving back among alumni leaders.  Also helping groom the next generation of Chapman Board of Trustee members.

What impact do you hope to make as a member of Chapman50?

Helping new students make the transition into Chapman and the real world, by way of scholarships, mentoring and support.

Tell me about your career- what do you do on a day to day basis?

Internet marketing – I am CEO of KCOMM, a full service marketing/communications firm, with over 1,000 clients and 65 employees and contractors.  I am also the chairman and founder of the Internet Marketing Association, which has close to 1,000,000 professional members worldwide and 110 distinguished members of our International Executive Council, including President Doti.

What insight would you give to current students and alumni who are searching for employment?

Have leadership and technology skills.  Understand servant leadership, teamwork, listening skills and sync up with a mentor who is in a profession you’d like to be in.

What advice do you have for current students who want to make the most out of their time at Chapman?

Take advantage of getting to know your faculty, administration and 3
rd
party associations.  Be involved with as many groups as possible.

From your time at Chapman, which faculty member(s) made the greatest impact on you and why?

Janell Shearer. She channeled my energy toward positive organizations on campus like PRSSA.  I use those same skill sets and energy in the work that I do on the 20+ boards I serve professionally.

What is your favorite Chapman memory?

When Jim Doti allowed me to have a hand in Chapman’s first website.  I’ll never forget the trust and opportunity he provided me when I started my company while still going to school.

What was your favorite spot on campus as a student?

Argyros Forum, sitting on the couches and hanging out with friends.

How has your Chapman degree helped you in your professional and personal life?

The degree has increased in value like a hot stock!  It has helped me both personally and professionally, connecting the right values with the right opportunities.

How were you involved on campus during your time as a Chapman student? (clubs, organizations, etc.)

I was fully involved with the House of Representatives, PRSSA, Toastmasters and other leadership groups.

Aside from Chapman50, how else have you been involved with Chapman since graduating?

I currently serve on the Board of Governors and mentor several students on an ongoing basis.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with the Chapman Family?

Chapman changed my life and I highly recommend it to others.
