San Diego alumni share their Panther pride at Chappy Hour

By organizing and promoting Chappy Hours,
the executive committee of the Young Alumni Society
has created a following of young professionals that come together to share ideas and build relationships. These gatherings have proven to be a great way to get people out of the work mindset and into a relaxed atmosphere that is conducive to making connections, both personal and professional.

Taking the initiative to organize an event in my area has allowed me to reconnect with old friends and make new friends who share the common bond of being a part of the Chapman University family. I encourage everyone to grow their networks and social circles and strengthen the Chapman University alumni network by joining the next Chappy Hour in your area or creating one of your own.

Alyssa ’10
and
Kyle Dykes ’10
of San Diego organized their first Chappy Hour in January. Alyssa shares why she felt it was important to organize for alumni in her area:

“When Kyle and I were newly married and in a new town, we went to a Chappy Hour in San Jose and made some new local connections. It was nice to already have something in common and talk to people who were from the area. When we moved back to San Diego, my hometown, I wanted to do the same for alumni who were new to the San Diego area or just looking for some new friends or connections. It is fun to be a part of helping people making new friends and seeing how everyone’s’ paths cross. I love Chapman and I love San Diego; what could be better than hanging out with people from or living in San Diego who went to Chapman?” – Alyssa Dykes ’10

Beth Hartnett ’09
recently organized her second Chappy Hour in Claremont, Calif. It was a big success and attendees had a great time; they event closed down the venue! Beth shares her inspiration for getting alumni together in her area:

“I recently started a new job working at Claremont McKenna College. Being back on a college campus and working to establish new programming and better opportunities for the CMC students reminded me of how transformational and important the Chapman experience was for me. I also serve as president of Alpha Gamma Delta’s Orange County Alumnae Chapter so staying connected and giving back are very important to me. Hosting an alumni networking event and serving as an ambassador of sorts felt like a good way to show my support. I have enjoyed the chance to reconnect with people who are pursuing all sorts of careers, but share the same connection to Chapman. As turns out, it also doesn’t matter what year you may have graduated; we all remember those Morlan bunnies…. and Dalton held one once.” – Beth Hartnett ’09
