Being away from the pitch is not something men’s soccer senior Tobi Howe is used to. A two-year starter in his first couple years at Chapman, Tobi can be most remembered for his game-winning goal in the 2018 SCIAC Tournament Championship to help the Panthers earn their first SCIAC title in program history. After nearly two years away from the pitch, Tobi and his teammates can’t wait to get back out there.

“After missing a whole season, I think everyone just wants to get out on the field and play. We have a young team with a lot of potential and I am very excited about what we can accomplish this year,” Tobi said. “I think the season means a little more for everyone after missing a year because for most of us we have never been away from the game for so long. A lot of us were itching to get on the field and were all just excited to be able to play competitive games again.”

For Tobi, though, the opportunity to take the field may take a little longer than expected. The striker is currently recovering from an injury, but that is not going to stop him from continuing to be a leader off the field.

“The focus for me while I am currently injured is to support the team as much as I can from the sideline and offer as much advice as possible to get us to where we need to be once the league games begin. Once I get back on the field, I am hoping to lead by example and set a good example for the younger players on the team.”

Despite not competing since November of 2019, Tobi says the Panthers are ready to fight for another championship. Nothing about their future goals has changed – it will always be to win.

“The goal is the same as it is every year, to win the league as well as SCIAC playoffs and make a deep run in the tournament.”
